The digital asset industry spent a decade asking for regulatory clarity. It now largely has it, and is discovering that clarity is expensive. Market structure and stablecoin frameworks are operative across the major economies, and the sector's discourse has shifted from what the rules will be to what complying with them costs.

The frameworks share a recognizable architecture: licensed intermediaries, segregated customer assets, reserve and disclosure standards for payment tokens, and perimeter definitions that sort instruments among existing regulatory categories. Practitioners quibble with boundaries while conceding the overall shape was the plausible one all along.

The consequences are the standard consequences of regulation: consolidation among firms that can carry compliance costs, institutional participation that clarity was the precondition for, and a periphery of activity migrating to lighter jurisdictions, whose significance regulators debate.

What remains genuinely open is the treatment of decentralized systems that lack an intermediary to license, a question every framework has deferred more than resolved. It is the unfinished chapter, and the one where the next round of legal and political argument is already assembling.
