The digital twin spent years as the star of vendor keynotes. It is now, in a growing set of industries, the screen operators actually watch. Live models of plants, power networks, and logistics systems, updated continuously from sensor data, have become the interface through which the physical asset is scheduled, tested, and run.

The maturation came from narrowing. Successful deployments model specific decisions, maintenance timing, load routing, changeover sequencing, rather than promising a universal replica, and their value is measured in avoided downtime and throughput gained.

AI closed the loop. Simulation provides the safe environment in which optimization models can propose and test interventions before touching reality, and operators describe the pairing as the point where the twin stopped being a dashboard and started being a tool.
